The SCT Costume Shop is looking for volunteers to work on the 2008-2009 show season here at the SCT Playhouse.  As you'll see below, not all costume crew volunteers need to know how to sew--EVERYONE can be involved!

We have changed our costume volunteer duties this year, to make the tasks a little more manageable.  We hope to have a great year with lots of fun in the costume shop with our productions this year, so please consider joining us!

If you're interested or have questions, please contact us We would love to have our costumers lined up as far in advance as possible!

Wardrobe Supervisiors:

Time Commitment: Moderate to Extensive

Needed: One per show, or two co-crew heads

Sewing Skills: A bonus, but not necessary

Supervises: the wardrobe crew

Basic Duties: Take measurements, pull and purchase costumes, supervise crew members, attend production meetings.  A basic design has already been done by the designer and the costume shop staff and seamstress, so if you don't have a lot of design experience or knowledge of time periods, that's ok!  We'll help you with the rest of it.

Wardrobe Crew:

Time Commitment: Minimal to Moderate

Needed: One to five, depending on the show

Sewing Skills: A bonus, but not necessary

Basic Duties: Help the wardrobe supervisor carry out the costuming of the show.  This job does not entail any sewing unless it’s something you volunteer for.  It could include helping backstage, overseeing fittings, pulling costumes, purchasing accessories or costumes locally, making craft items like hats.

Dressing Crew:

Time Commitment: Moderate during show production only

Needed: One to Five, depending on the show and how many nights each wants to work

Sewing Skills: none needed

Basic Duties: helping backstage with actors getting ready.  Depending on the show, this may involve being backstage and actually helping the actors during a quick change.

Sewing Crew:

Time Commitment: As much or as little as you’d like

Needed: One to Dozens!!  Invite your friends J

Sewing Skills: Basic to Advanced

Basic Duties: Let us know what you’d like to do and how much time you have and we will prepare a project packet for you.  It will include pattern pieces or pre-cut fabric, instructions, all notions needed besides thread.  We usually have simple projects and more advanced projects.  These projects can sometimes be ready for pick up a couple of months or more prior to dress rehearsal.

In case you don’t have the information handy, here are the shows that we are doing this year.  We still need costume folks for ALL of these shows!

Annie Get Your Gun

Work begins: Already in process!

Cast Chosen by: August 8

Dress Rehearsal Estimate: October 5

Show Runs: October 10-25

Strike: October 26

Medium to Large sized cast, Men and Women.  Many changes for the lead characters.  Costumes include many western show style costumes (1860’s style, with a 1940’s twist due to the movie release), ballroom attire, Indians and fancy daywear.  Our biggest costuming show this year!

It’s a Wonderful Life

Work begins: Late September or October

Cast Chosen by: October 17

Dress Rehearsal Estimate: December 2

Show Runs: December 5-13

Strike: December 14

Larger cast for a non-musical, many men and women.  Many small, quick changes.  Takes place in 1946 with flashbacks of George’s life.  Men’s costumes will be mostly pulled from stock, some sewing for the vintage women’s wear.  Dressers and Supervisor will need to be very organized, due to the quick pace of the scene changes.

Taffetas

Work begins: Early December

Cast Chosen by: December 12

Dress Rehearsal Estimate: February 8

Show Runs: February 13-28

Strike: March 1

Design to be determined.  Mostly 1950’s cocktail dresses.  Number of changes will be determined later.  Less time commitment from Supervisor, fewer dressers needed, a fairly easy costuming production.  We predict many new builds for this show.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

Work begins: Late February, Early March

Cast Chosen by: March 6

Dress Rehearsal Estimate: April 12

Show Runs: April 17-25

Strike: April 26

Simple design, many uniform type outfits, not much color.  Locating products and reasonable prices will be the main job.  Medium sized cast with little to no costume changes.
